TAMPA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

About this project

In late 2011, Tampa International Airport officials began updating the Master Plan for the Airport’s 3,300-acre campus. The final plan, approved in 2013, allows the Airport to accommodate up to 34 million passengers each year, and is divided into three distinct phases: Decongestion, enabling and expansion. It allows a “build as demand dictates” approach to growth, with phases based on passenger volume.

The first phase, which was substantially completed in 2018, helps decongest the curbsides, roads and Main Terminal.
Three years after breaking ground, Phase 1 of TPA's Master Plan was completed. Finished projects include a 2.6-million square foot Rental Car Center that features twice the number of rental car brands, offering more variety than ever before. SkyConnect, a 1.5-mile automated people mover, replaces shuttle buses to transport guests from the Rental Car Center and Economy Parking to the Main Terminal. The new system is fast, efficient and removes 2.7 million vehicles from Airport roadways and curbsides each year. The Main Terminal was transformed into the shining jewel of the Airport, with all new elevators, escalators, shops and restaurants. At the airsides, more new shops and restaurants were added, many with multiple brands and local flavor.
